Colourful & easy to use Google Maps Icons for your web applications & map markers

There are hundreds of colourful icons from google specially meant for using as markers in maps but they can be very well used in other places. There is a great work done by Fabio Vergani who compiled all those icons and presented to the open source community @ https://sites.google.com/site/gmapsdevelopment/Home. I just found one shortcoming in his compilation which is the presentation & usability, it is not very simple to use without understanding the icon name formulae (How to resolve the icon name w.r.t categorization). I felt so because of I am a very big fan of Font Awesome icons and and their documentation so I mimicked it for Google Maps and presented here.

What I did?

  • Listed all the Icon categories as bootstrap navigation links
  • Click on each category will show all the icons associated with it
  • Click on each icon will bring up a text box on the top with the icon url which is very easy to know the icon source. This is a big time saver…the magic of copy & paste!

When you see the both the version, you will appreciate the benefit of my version. Download the source code from my Git Repository

Disclaimer: The original credit goes to Fabio Vergani for the wonderful work he did. What I did is just the presentation change so that will be easy of everyone to consume it in no time without understanding how to resolve the icon names.

  1. Hello would you mind letting me know which hosting
company you’re working with? I’ve loaded your blog in 3 completely different internet browsers and I must say this blog loads a lot quicker then most.
Can you suggest a good web hosting provider at a
honest price? Many thanks, I appreciate it!
