Environment Setup for “What’s Going On” mobile & tablet app development

In order to develop, run, test and deploy the What’s Going On mobile application we need the following tools, frameworks, sdks required and also we needed logins in various cloud tools chosen for this app development

Marked with are mandatory steps

 * Download Sencha SDK and follow the getting started guide to set up local web server of your choice

* Signup with Sencha.IO (Sencha.com) to host the sencha application

Use any IDE of your choice. I use Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 Express because the same is required for Nancy to develop RESTful Services (if the track is not Ruby on Rails). I also use Jetbrains WebStrom which is great for JavaScript.

We need Eclipse & PhoneGap to package the Sencha as Native Mobile App to host it in Google Play and App Store. This step is required if we are not using Sencha Build. Read and follow PhoneGap getting started guide for Android & IOS

Signup with RavenHQ to get a RavenDB cloud access

* Signup with Appharbour to get MS.NET (Nancy REST API) hosting or Signup with Heroku to get RoR hosting

Signup with codeplux (Subversion Source Code repository) or GitHub

Download Tortoise SVN Subversion Client. This may be required to down my sample source codes from Google Source Code Repository under branches for every sessions / code posts.

Google Chrome Web Browser

Install Ripple Google Chrome extension (Mobile / Tablet emulator)

Mozilla RESTClient, a debugger for RESTful web services. (Firefox is required) or RESTClient Java application to test RESTful webservices

  1. This design is spectacular! You certainly know how to
keep a reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved
to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Fantastic job. I really loved
what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it.

    Too cool!
